Synonymous for it’s beautiful, rolling, green fields and undulating hills the stunning countryside of Ireland has long been referred to as “The Emerald Isle”.  In 1795 a famous poet by the name of William Drennan wrote a piece entitled “When Erin first Rose”. The words of the poem contained the lyrics “Arm of Erin, be strong! But be gentle as brave; And uplifted to strike, be still ready to save; Let no feeling of vengeance presume to defile; The cause of, or men of, the Emerald Isle”.  This is the first known written recording of the term “The Emerald Isle”.
