Sometimes it is the small things that make the biggest difference, and one of the things that you can do to improve the look of the front of your home is to update your meter box cover. If yours is looking a little old, shabby or simply past its best, then this will make a huge impact on how the front of your house looks. You could replace the whole box entirely with a brand new box, or you could go down the route of painting your old one – if it is completely sound apart from looking a little worse for wear, then painting it is the cheapest option.

Before you start to paint straight away, the first thing to do is to find out what the box is made from – this is important as you want to make sure that you get the right paint. Check if there is any damage to the box, such as dents and scratches – it is better to repair these beforehand so that you have an even surface to paint on, as the paint won’t hide these and you will also end up with an uneven finish.

It is also a good idea to use a primer before painting the box fully. This is because it can help to get a more even end result and also get the paint to adhere much quicker, keeping it looking its best for longer. When it comes to choosing the paint, have a look at various types of paints for the material of your box and do some research – it could help to go to a specialist store and have a chat there.
