There are lots of beautiful places to explore in the countryside in the UK, and in the Spring, it is a great time to do it. One of the wildest parts of the country, as well as the most diverse and interesting ecologically, is Dartmoor.
This beautiful national park in the south of England is a great place to go if you want to reconnect with nature. Of course, the weather can be changeable, so wear appropriate clothing like this women’s merino wool sweater https://www.shamrockgift.com/aran-sweaters/womens-aran-sweaters/womens-merino-wool-irish-sweater and also make sure that you have waterproofs, as the rainfall here is above average!
Here are some of the things that you might be fortunate enough to see in the spring…
Beetles – Dartmoor is home to many threatened species of beetle such as the blue ground beetle, which are no longer present in most parts of the UK. Keep an eye out in the woodlands for these beautiful creatures.
Otters – The otter was once seriously threatened and on the brink of extinction, however the river valleys in the area have provided the perfect home for these secretive creatures. Early morning is the best time to spot one.
Birds – Dartmoor is home to a vast array of bird life, thanks to the variation of landscapes – high on the moors look and listen for the sound of the skylark and of course the cuckoo, and head into the woodlands to see woodpeckers and Goshawks to name just a couple!
